The article I wrote for League Lines!!!

Now that League Lines (the magazine published by the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties) is out I can share with you guys the article I wrote for it!

Fall/Winter Trends

There's no question that the recession has left an unforgettable mark on fashion. It's forced women to change their shopping habits and in turn forced designers and retailers to react. Whether you’re shopping discount stores, only investing in a few luxury pieces or buying less expensive brands all around your shopping habits have changed. Nevertheless as always the weather will change and ladies will be ready for a change of wardrobe. Temperatures may still be in the 90s here in the south, but Fall clothes have arrived. Seen on the runways this year was a touch of conservative glamour, urban/military wear, bold color combinations, a touch of the fifties and menswear. Pick a trend or two and start shopping!

Tipping the hat to Mad Men the styles of the Fifties are making a comeback., with hourglass silhouettes, curve-hugging dresses and below-the-knee pencil skirts. Faux Fur has also re-emerged on the scene for fall/winter. Lucky for us it’s cheaper and much more in vogue than real fur. Eccentric colors are all the rave with models wearing them head to toe on the runway. It looks like "matchy-matchy" is in style again. Also in style, Menswear-inspired suiting and outerwear are key looks and the best way to carry the minimalist trend forward. This is a great look for the office; think cropped trousers, tailored jackets and vests with button down shirts. If you’re feeling frisky and want to brighten the room at this years office party don’t forget your gold. Gold lame frocks are big this year with a touch of shimmer and decadence. I’ve heard when the economy falls so do the hemlines and that seems to ring true this season. Say so long to your micro-minis and sky-high heels. Designers have gone long for both day and night, turning out modest yet remarkable skirts that skim the upper shins or hit at the ankles. These new looks pair well with kitten heels and flat-soled boots. Still if you want to skip the minimalist approach you’ll have no problem finding a mix of sequins, shearling, cashmere, and denim, and have fun with layering them. You won't go cold this winter when wearing these different textures together in layers.

You’re also likely to see lots of great Eco-options in Fall Fashion including Fair trade made items, organic, vegan and ethically sourced materials. Many collections showcase the same trends above yet incorporate ethically sourced 100% pure wool; vegetable tanned leather and eco fabrics. Organic fashion tends to be priced a bit higher than regular fashion lines because the cost of organic, eco and raw materials are more expensive. However as consumers become more aware of the impact of certain industries on the environment, they want to make better choices. Again this season there are so many fantastic fashion trends to choose from whether you decide to purchase organic or not.

Looking for Clothes Hound Reps!

Clothes Hound is an online boutique that also does home trunk shows. It’s the modern home-based career that’s perfect for someone who only wants to work part time. We've put the power of ecommerce, social networking and personal service behind an irresistible boutique. It's the next big opportunity for you if you love to party and have a big circle of friends or connections. Think getting together with girlfriends, Lucky Magazine, Facebook and a glass of wine!

Unlike many other home businesses this doesn’t cost anything to get started. All you need to do is think about your circle of influence, reach out to those folks and see who would like to host a Clothes Hound trunk show. As the owner I’ll provide everything you need. You just attend the party with your hostess, you get 20% of everything you sell in cash the night of the party and your hostess gets 20% of your total sales in free clothing! It’s a fun and easy way to make money! For example you as a Clothes Hound rep call 5 of your friends and two promise to host a party. At Friend A’s party you sell $1000, so you get $200 and Friend A the hostess gets $200 in free clothing. At Friend B’s party you sell $1500 so you get $300 cash and Friend B gets $300 in free clothing, it’s that easy.

Trunk shows are always casual, always no pressure and always fun. As a Clothes Hound rep, you'll offer private trunk shows of our clothing. Just you and a group of girlfriends shopping with their inner circle of style, trying on the clothes and walking away with them the same night. Everything is cash and carry so there is no shipping or waiting for the clothes. Our company paid for Hostess Rewards and marketing tools help you book trunks shows well beyond friends and family.

Check out our website, and Facebook page and email me if interested!

Include us in your Black Friday/Cyber Monday plans

I had such a great time last weekend in DC/MD/VA! I did a show at the Connolly School in Potomac MD, a private all girls school. I drove up Friday am, set up and then picked up my BFF Allison at the Train station in DC, she came down from Philly to help me and spend some girl time together. We were able to walk to Tyson's Corner for dinner and even stopped at the Ritz for drinks. Then after the show on Saturday Leslie, my husbands cousin who is in law school at Catholic joined us! After freaking her out with my breast pump (yes I'm still nursing) we headed to the hotel bar for a few drinks and then took the shuttle to Tyson's again for dinner. We managed to drink enough to need a shuttle ride home but our driver abandoned us, after yelling at the manager at our hotel they sent the driver of the neighboring hotel??? Oh well at least we got a ride! The show was Saturday and Sunday and went extremely well...I'll definitely be going to that one again and will hopefully be able to bring the girls back too! I'm enjoying my one week break from shows and looking forward to stuffing my face on Thanksgiving!!!

We are doing a huge sale Black Friday-Cyber Monday, 40% off everything + free shipping with code "blackfriday" Happy Shopping and Happy Thanksgiving!

V Fish Leggings

I just met with Kendra from V Fish and got some amazing things for this winter and next spring!!! The fall/winter stuff I am having over nighted to my hotel in VA for the Mayfield Market show, I think the girls in Va and Md will love this stuff! I'm most excited about their new line of fleece lined leggings. They'll be up on the site soon but until then here is the description ... they are so soft, warm and only $30, we are getting them in black, brown and charcoal!!!

These fleece-lined leggings provides comfort and style. The fleece keeps your warm without feeling stuffy and the high, wide waist keeps everything in place while strut yourself. Perfect for tunics and dresses, they also work well under pants to keep you toasty on those cold winter days.

Fayetteville's Holly Day Fair

I have to be honest I was somewhat dreading going to Holly Day Fair, I mean it does have the word "fair" in the name which normally isn't a good thing when selling cute contemporary clothing. BUT I must say I had such a great time! I had the best "show" neighbors...a mother daughter team form Greenville and my booth was on the front row right by the door where about 20,000 people entered in the 4 day span. This was my second year doing this show and last year as the newbie I was stuck in the back corner but this year, tada, front and center! It made a world of difference too, my sales were higher and I met some great people! Going back to the name... Fair does stand for something...I mean I did see a girl wearing an airbrushed Beiber Fever sweatshirt and a grandma wearing a sweatshirt that read TLG, tender loving grandma. =) I'm not opposed to helping the fashion challenged, just visit the Clothes Hound booth!

Denim has revolutionized American fashion. Denim has taken over high-end fashion evolving into a pop culture phenomenon.

Three styles seen everywhere... Straight leg, Skinny and Boot cut.

Straight leg fit any body type and can act as a curve minimizer. Where them a size larger and roll up the hem for a cut boyfriend fit. Pair them with sexy heels and you're ready for a night out!

Skinny jeans are the perfect way to show off your curves. They're meant to be tight, stuff them into a pair of boots and pair with a tunic top.

Boot cut jeans add curves and look cute with a shorter top.

From Richmond to Ohio

Well we left Raleigh around noon on Tuesday, drove to Richmond for Ivy Market and got set up for our 2 day show. Ivy Market was awesome, the ladies night out Tuesday brought out lots of girls who enjoyed getting tipsy....good for us, the more they drink the more we sell! Today we finished up the show at 4pm managing to take a few pictures before hand, see Louise above in the Gentle Fawn plaid tunic. We packed up and started the drive to Ohio, as we set out we thought we could do the full 8 hour drive today but we only made it to Beckley WV before we felt like we would drive off a mountain so here we are less than half way. We'll be arriving in Columbus tomorrow for our 4 day show at the Columbus school for girls. Never been to OH but I'm super excited for this show!

Fashion's Night Out

Did anyone watch Fashion's Night out last night? I dvr'd it and watched it today.

If you didn't see it the website basically says what it was all about. "From Brooklyn to Brazil to Boston, the fashion industry is already buzzing about the 2010 edition of the biggest fashion party in history."

It was really meant to inspire you to go out and spend money on fashion again. Explaining that consumer spending keeps people working from the electrician that hangs the lights in the stores to the boutique owner and designers who fill the store. I know it's a big circle b/c if you aren't working or are under employed how can you go out and spend money? I did find it interesting that Tory Burch as huge as she is doesn't do any print advertising. She only promotes through social media and says she loves it this way b/c she gets feedback instantly whether it be positive or negative.

If you watched let me know your thoughts...

Clothes Hound Party

I had so much fun today, I did a Clothes Hound party at Topsail Beach. What could be better than the Beach, Shopping and Wine with your girlfriends?! Of course I forgot to take pictures but Becky and Julie threw an amazing party which had a great turn out. I got to catch up with some old friends from high school I hadn't seen in a long time and enjoyed meeting some of their other girlfriends. I'm always amazed at the great group of friends girls have, I love being invited into their circle even if it is only for a few hours during a party. It's fun to observe the dynamic, hear about their interest and of course eavesdrop on the gossip. :) Definitely a fun Sunday! Thanks again Ladies!

Okay ladies we are back up and running...didn't take long but boy was I stressed out about that situation! Enjoy your weekend, only 1 more day!

Shopping in a RV

Yesterday I shopped in an RV in my driveway! It's definitely the way to go, so convenient. Rosie from the Lisa Adams showroom pulled up in her RV stocked full of designers and amazing fall/winter items! All I had to do was walk in and shop. Brooklyn was in on the action hanging out in the Baby Bjorn, if she doesn't love fashion at an early age I'll be surprised! I wrote lots of new brands including, Renee C, WOW Couture, See Thur Soul, Velvet Heart, Charlie Jade and one brand I carried last year, C. Luce!!! I can't wait for you all to see the fall/winter Clothes Hound collections and as always the prices are great!

Ok so my website is still down .... I spoke to "Ken" last night and he promised to call me this morning and get me the info I need to contact the host company so we can get it up again. Basically my web design company split due to partner disagreements and my site was shifted to a new company which I believe is 2 people who also have other full time jobs. You can see my dilemma in trying to work with the new company! Hopefully all will be resolved soon but I'll keep you up to date!

New Arrivals

I just met with Kate from the Lisa Adams show room and purchased new fall items from Designers, Theme, Aryn K and Bobi and got some awesome belts too! Bobi is a new brand for us and I know you'll love it. It's made up of great basics with a twist, they come in a variety of colors and they're easy pieces you'll love wearing this fall. As always all the prices are great and I can't wait to send you all updates with more pictures!

Fun day at Coral Bay

I had a great show at the Coral Bay Club! It was super hot, only 100 degrees so I think most of the sun bathers wanted a nice cool break inside. There were some great young designers there, Southern Frock (who I ran into last week at Charm Night Out) Mary Bee's Jewelry (sweet girl from NC State) and a great bag designer, the bags are made from old sails. These vendors stood out to me b/c they are all college aged girls trying their hand at designing. It's great to see them getting such an early start, I definitely admire them for it! I bought Brooklyn a precarious pet, a super cute pink whale crafted from old quilts a lady in Raleigh hand makes them. All in all a great day at the beach. I definitely look forward to doing it again next year!

Charm Night Out

Thanks ladies for making Charm Night Out a whole lot of fun! There were tons of people there and no shortage of shopping. I got to see a few people I met at the event last year and had fun meeting some new folks in Rocky Mount. I'll be going back soon for a couple of Clothes Hound/Stella and Dot parties, can't wait! I had three dresses in the fashion show but unfortunately didn't get to watch the show. I heard there was some drama though....I believe one of the models had a little too much wine! =)

Look for us in the coming weeks at the Coral Bay Club July 7th, Coral Bay Club Atlantic Beach and Boutiques at Brightleaf July 15th, Brightleaf at the Park Club Durham!

Today on Oprah she dove into the life of Jenna Lyons the Executive Creative Director of J. Crew and I must say I'm envious! Not only does she decide on the designs she decides where there stores go, what goes in the catalogs and helps with all the styling. She did have some great tips for us regular folks...

Wear Statement Pieces - Make your jewelry count
Wear Opposites - Put different fabrics together ie. sequin top with cotton pants
Menswear - Add a feminine touch to a menswear piece

Gentle Fawn Spring Collection

The Gentle Fawn Spring Collection is here and will be on our website later today!

The latest range showcases the best of Gentle Fawn’s Spring 10 collection. Coveted features include a wide assortment of tunics (or itty bitty dresses), modal jersey knit tops, acid washed terry, relaxed textured twill and new-to-the-scene fluid tanks and slouchy tees.

The collection has incorporated some of Gentle Fawn’s signature elements: innovative details in texture, trims, and hardware along with this season’s binge for fringe, icy pastels, and featherweight fabrics. Gentle Fawn Spring/Summer 10 welcomes the pairing of simplicity and polished charm, resulting in a line that is both laid back yet put together. The color palette for this season is a mix of warm fruity shades like Cactus, Bright Coral, and Wineberry, off set with blue cast tones of Amethyst, Seafoam and Blue Fog. Clear and clean pastels position themselves as allies and not essentials (Ice Blue, Heather Blush, and Ivory) and the palette is balanced by inserts of the outdoors (Marine & Shadow Grey). Resulting in a sophisticated story portrayed in thoughtful assortments. Some of the graphical influences are mystical, illustrated, and ditsy floras, while other elements are textured, coated, destroyed, or dirty. Femininity takes a delicate turn to the tone of gauzy, sheer fabrics.

The Highlights Refreshed from last Spring/Summer’s deliciously pop-colored season, Gentle Fawn has extended our offering of casual knits and layering essentials presented in a tight cohesive package.

Spanx Swimsuits

While Clothes Hound doesn't sell bathing suits it is a thought that has crossed my mind, I just think it's a hard sell over the Internet. Don't you want to try your bathing suit on? I am absolutely in love with the idea of Spanx for Swimsuits however.

Hiding your “new mommy” bits at the beach or pool just got easier thanks to the new swimwear line from Spanx. Just like the company’s slenderizing shapewear each bathing suit is designed to slim you down (and hold you in) without making you uncomfortable. The prices are a little steep but I think it's worth it if they make you feel more comfortable in a swimsuit this summer!

Spring 2010 Trends

I don't know about you guys but I am ready for spring! Bring on the warm weather and new spring fashions.

From neutrals and feathers to peek-a-boo mesh panels and schoolgirl chic, here's what you'll be wearing this spring:

NEUTRAL TONES: The aesthetic here is simple, clean, and elegant -- dresses, in particular, were the focus of this pared-down look.

PEEK-A-BOO: Exposed flesh was in no short supply on the runways. Designers chose to use cut-outs, slits, mesh, lace, and more to give a sexy little peek at the skin beneath their ornate pieces.

METALLICS: Recession? What recession? It was disco fever across many of the spring runways, with designers banking on glitz, sparkle, and shimmer to distract consumers' attention away from retail's continuing woes.

FEATHERS: Dovetailing with the "who cares about the recession" theme, designers took a renewed interest in feathers for spring -- of all colors and textures. The frothy look added a playful levity to the runways, not unlike taking part in a fantastic carnival.

SCHOOL SPIRIT: Back-to-school season may be September, but the spring collections were packed with knee socks, preppy stripes, gym clothes, and academic blazers.

LEISURE SUITS: Fall 2009 brought the "power suit" back to the foreground of fashion, but Spring 2010 heralds the return of leisure dressing -- attire fit for jet-setters and effortlessly put-together cool kids.

Why I added Stella & Dot!

I had no idea what opportunity lied before me when two girls in Richmond VA, shared Stella & Dot with me in December. I own Clothes Hound of course but still wanted to make more money without giving up the flexibility I currently have in my schedule. I'm 7 months pregnant and want to stay at home and am trying to save some money before Baby comes. I fell in love with what these two ladies shared with me. Was this too good to be true? No! It actually works! I can work my own hours, make good money and have a jewelry collection that is to die for! If you know what you want out of it, make it happen! You are in control of your own business and what a great opportunity lies ahead of each and every one of us! It is such an amazing time to be involved with Stella & Dot. The company is so new and growing like crazy. How can anyone resist the beautiful jewelry and incredible business opportunity?! I am so thankful that I heard about Stella & Dot when I did! It's a great addition to my trunk shows and I love sharing it with others! I can't imagine what lies ahead of each of us. It gets better everyday! Great way to start a new year!
